Opened in 1938, Luton Airport was built for and owned by the Borough of Luton.
The airport cashed in on the boom in package holidays in the 50's and 60's, and
despite setbacks over the years, it has seen passenger numbers go from 1.9 million
in 1995/6 to around 7 million now.
